Recovery Programme

Recovery-friendly support beyond medicine.

What Is Recovery-Friendly Travel?

The Recovery & Wellbeing Programme explores how travel, hospitality and wellbeing experiences can support emotional recovery, dignity and quality of life for people facing serious illness. We believe healing is not only medical. Recovery can also mean rest, comfort, human connection, safety and the ability to feel alive again.

For People Living With Serious Illness or Recovery

If you are living with serious illness, going through treatment or rebuilding your strength after a difficult health journey, travel can feel overwhelming. The Recovery & Wellbeing Programme is being developed to help people understand what to look for in hotels, travel support and wellbeing spaces before they book or travel. Our aim is to make recovery-focused travel feel calmer, clearer and more dignified — not by offering medical advice, but by helping people ask better questions, understand their needs and choose spaces that may support rest, comfort and emotional wellbeing.

What We Look For in Recovery-Friendly Spaces

We consider factors such as:

Calm and restorative environment

A peaceful setting that supports rest, emotional regulation and a sense of safety.

Comfortable rooms and quiet spaces

Rooms and spaces where guests can rest properly, recover energy and feel physically comfortable.

Respectful guest relations

Communication that is kind, discreet, patient and sensitive to guests facing illness or recovery.

Accessible or supportive room layouts

Rooms that feel easy to move through, practical to use and suitable for guests managing fatigue or mobility needs.

Safe and reliable transport options

Transport support that helps guests move between airports, hotels and appointments with less stress.

Clear communication before and during the stay

Helpful information before arrival and responsive support during the stay, reducing anxiety and uncertainty.

Wellbeing facilities or peaceful outdoor spaces

Access to spa, wellness, garden, sea view, terrace or calm outdoor areas that support rest and emotional wellbeing.

Sensitivity towards guests with health-related needs

Awareness that some guests may need extra patience, privacy, flexibility or a quieter experience.

Food and rest options suitable for people rebuilding strength

Simple, nourishing and flexible food and rest options that support people with lower energy or changing needs.

Emotional dignity and human-centred service

Service that helps guests feel respected, seen and cared for without being reduced to their illness.

Pilot Status

The Recovery & Wellbeing Programme is being shaped through ambassador-led visits, lived experience, hospitality observations, travel research and early conversations with selected service providers.
